BROOKLYN — A police car caught on fire in Fort Greene after someone tossed a firecracker inside the cruiser, the NYPD said.

Police were breaking up an unruly crowd setting off illegal fireworks near the corner of Carlton and Lafayette avenues on July 5 at about 2:30 a.m. when someone threw one of the explosives into a marked 88th Precinct police car, the NYPD said.

The car burst into flames, forcing officers to use a fire extinguisher to put out the blaze, police said.

Five people were arrested for disorderly conduct, but police are still investigating who threw the firecracker, they said.

No one was injured, police added.
