BREEZY POINT —A 23-year-old man who was thrown from the backseat of a car he and three friends took as it was left running in a parking lot died this week from his injuries, police said.

Thomas Rorke, of Breezy Point, suffered head trauma after being thrown from the 2008 BMW after the driver struck a fire hydrant at 210th Street and Rockaway Point Boulevard at roughly 3:50 a.m. on May 31, according to the NYPD.

Another friend, who has not been officially identified, was hospitalized with trauma to his body after he was also flung from the car. He was in stable condition, according to police.

Rorke and three friends allegedly hopped into the car — which was left running in a supermarket parking lot on Rockaway Point Boulevard and 202nd Street — and sped away east on the private community's main road, police said.

The driver and another passenger fled the scene after the car crashed.

The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made, police said.
