BREEZY POINT — A group of men took a BMW, that was left running and unattended in a parking lot, for a joy ride and then crashed into a hydrant, causing two of them to be flung from the car, NYPD said.

Four men hopped into a 2008 BMW that was left running in the parking lot of Breezy Point's shopping center at roughly 3:50 a.m on May 31, police said.

They drove the car east on Rockaway Point Boulevard and then crashed it into a fire hydrant at 210th Street moments later, causing a 26-year-old man and a 23-year-old man to be thrown from the vehicle, officials said.

The two other men in the car fled the scene, police said.

The 26-year-old was taken to Kings County Hospital in stable condition. The 23-year-old, who was sitting in the rear of the car, was rushed to Brookdale Hospital with head trauma, police said.

It wasn't immediately clear where everyone else was sitting. Police are still investigating who was driving at the time.

The small shopping center in the private community of Breezy Point includes a supermarket, liquor store and bar.
