FORT GREENE — Police questioned three men for trying to lure a 10-year-old girl to their car after school — but let them go after determining that the girl "embellished" her story.

Police began a search for the suspects on March 9 when a young girl reported that she was approached by the men around 4:20 p.m. near Fort Greene Park.

She said they asked her to get into their car before she ran away and told her mother, NYPD said.

This incident is one of four where children were allegedly approached by strangers near Brooklyn schools in the span of one week. In one case an arrest was made.

A police source said the girl was "smart to run away and get help." But the source also said that while there "was engagement" between the girl and the men, her story may have been "embellished a bit."

Police did not release details of the girl's story or what actually happened.

The suspects — three men aged approximately 30-years-old — went to the 88th Precinct and were questioned by officers after police identified them using videotape of the incident that led them to the owner of the vehicle, a BMW SUV, police said.

"They came in, cooperated and had no priors," a police source said adding that they are employed in the area and "hard-working citizens."

Officers found "no reason to arrest them," police said.

Police said they have a video of the short verbal interaction between the men and the girl before she ran off, police said. There is no audio, they said.

The suspects were released and the investigation was closed, police said.
