DUMBO — Organizers of a popular Brooklyn Bridge Park photo exhibit extended the online deadline for photographers because their site became overwhelmed with submissions, they said.

The exhbit, titled simply "The Fence," has gone up every summer since 2011, and displays photographer-submitted pieces on a fence that winds 1,000 feet through DUMBO's waterfront park, according to its organizers at United Photo Industries.

The photo project was so popular in its first two years that it added a satellite installation in Boston in 2013, Atlanta the next year and Houston for summer 2015, effectively creating a more than 25,000-foot-long art piece, organizers said.

Photographers had until March 16 to submit their work for the multi-city exhibit, but organizers extended the deadline to noon on March 23, they said.

"[We extended the deadline] in order to alleviate the longer-than-usual upload times many of you are experiencing due to the high volume of visitors to the submission site," organizers announced over email.

The selection panel, which is made up of photography luminaries, will notify submitters if their work was chosen on April 24, organizers said.

"Over 3 million people expected to walk, bike, crawl and jog by your photos in Brooklyn, Atlanta, Houston and Boston," event organizers said.

Photographers who are interested can submit up to six of their photos in six categories including creatures, home, people, play, streets and nature.

In 2014, The Fence displayed Gregg Segal's series "7 Days of Garbage" which showed portraits of friends, neighbors and other acquaintances with the garbage they accumulate in the course of a week.

Miho Aikawa's "Dinner in NY," which showed New Yorkers at home eating dinner, was also included last year.

The judges who will pick what adorns the fence include Aidan Sullivan of Getty Images, Elizabeth Krist of National Geographic, Emma Raynes of the Magnum Foundation and Clement Saccomani of Magnum Photos.

Selected photographers will also get other prizes including a container exhibit at Photoville, a show at United Photo Industries and 12 portfolio prints of the selected series.

The Brooklyn fence will be in Brooklyn Bridge Park all summer while the the Boston fence will be unveiled in May, the Atlanta fence goes up in August and the Houston fence will be installed in November.

The exact dates of the exhibits had not been announced as Tuesday afternoon.

Staff at United Photo Industries did not immediately return requests for comment.
