FORT GREENE — A registered sex offender was caught stealing a stove from a Fort Greene home in broad daylight late last month, according to police.

The owner of the building saw Jorge Martinez, 59, wheeling a stove out of his Vanderbilt Avenue building with a hand truck around 1 p.m. on Dec. 29, police said.

The owner then called police who arrested Martinez on charges of burglary and trespassing, the NYPD said.

Martinez was also arrested last year for sexually abusing two minors under 10 years old over a period of several years.

He pleaded guilty to the sex offense on Aug. 18 and was sentenced to a year in prison. It is unclear how many months he spent in jail before he was arrested again in December.

Martinez pleaded guilty to misdemeanor criminal trespass charges on Jan. 6. He was fined $250 and sentenced to time served.

The Brooklyn DA did not comment on why the other charges were dropped and the building owner and Martinez's lawyer could not be reached for comment.

In other crime in the 88th Precinct:

• A gunman stole $700 from Fulton Street Bagels on Dec. 31, police said. The robber entered the store, at 558 Fulton St., around 3 p.m. and picked up two cans of soda, the NYPD said.

He then brought the cans to the register, showed the cashier a gun and said, “Don’t move. Give me all the money," according to police.

The cashier gave him cash and the thief ran down Fulton Street leaving the soda behind, police said. The NYPD is checking the cans for fingerprints and an investigation is ongoing, police said.

• A Fort Greene bar was burglarized on Dec. 29, police said. The burglar, who entered the Dekalb Avenue bar through a side window, stole bottles of Hendrick’s Gin and Grey Goose Vodka as well as $96 in cash, according to police. No arrests were made. The exact address of the bar was not available.
