FORT GREENE — A 75-year-old grandmother was sexually assaulted and robbed at a housing project on New Year's Day, police said.

The victim was discovered by a passerby at the bottom of an exterior stairwell around 8 a.m. in the Ingersoll Houses, police said.

Her wallet had been stolen, her clothes removed and she was bleeding, according to the NYPD.

CBS News reported that the woman, who has three young grandchildren, was collecting cans nearby when she was dragged to the stairwell and assaulted.

She was taken to Kings County Hospital in stable condition, police said.

The NYPD Special Victims Unit is looking for a suspect but no description is currently available, according to police.

Anyone with information can contact the NYPD‘s Sex Crimes hotline at 212-267-RAPE.
