FORT GREENE — A thief stole wheels off a bike in Fort Greene on Thursday night — and the six-minute incident was caught on tape.
The video, which was filmed by a webcam owned by South Oxford Street Block Association president Abby Weissman around 6 p.m. on Dec. 11, captures the thief first scoping out the bike and then walking away.
He then goes back to the white Retrospec road bike, which had wheel locks and was fastened to a fence with a U-lock, and begins to detach each wheel — valued at approximately $70 each.
The wheel locks were both cut, according to the owner — a 29-year-old woman who declined to be named.
He leaves the area each time someone walks past and finally takes the wheels off the bike, places them in a garbage bag and walks away.
The incident took less than five minutes.
The bike's owner has not filed a police report but plans to, she said.
The same camera also caught a dog owner leaving her pet's poop on the sidewalk — a video that caused Fort Greene residents to launch a "Dog Walkers Hall of Shame" campaign.
