Brooklyn Bridge Swim Shuts Out Disabled Team

Organizers of a swimming race in the East River this weekend demanded that a team of disabled athletes pay extra fees to participate. The athletes say that's discrimination.

LIRR Strike Averted

The MTA cut a deal with the United Transport Union, avoiding a Long Island Rail Road strike set for Sunday that could have stranded thousands of beachgoers and commuters. Under the deal, the LIRR workers will get a raise and begin contributing to their health care costs.

Fashion Truck Rolls Into Williamsburg

A pair of entrepreneurs priced out of New York storefronts bought a truck on Craigslist, painted it "radiant orchid" and opened the mobile clothing store of their dreams. Le Suite Boutique started this spring and has popped up on corners from Inwood to Soho.

Brooklyn DA May Toss Old Pot Cases

Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson and his staff are poring over hundreds of old marijuana cases and may drop charges, as part of the office's new policy not to prosecute first-time, low-level pot arrests. The NYPD said officers will continue to make marijuana arrests in Brooklyn, whether or not the DA prosecutes the cases.
