CLINTON HILL — A Staten Island high school senior who was visiting a friend in Brooklyn was among those shot when a gunman fired into a crowd near the Pratt Institute, her family said.
Quinesha Reeves, 17, was one of three people hit when the man unleashed a hail of bullets near the school in Clinton Hill.
The high school senior was in stable condition Wednesday at the Intensive Care Unit at Kings County Hospital, according to her mother Ebony Mitchell.
"I Really Got Shot Yesterday, I'm So Thankful That It Missed My Lungs," Reeves wrote on her Facebook page. "Thank You For Everyone Who Prayed For Me and Told Me To Feel Better."
Reeves was visiting a friend when a fight broke between her friend and another woman around 10:30 p.m. on April 29 near 185 Waverly Ave., Mitchell said.
She was attempting to break up the fight when a man allegedly opened fire on the crowd, hitting Reeves in the torso and her 17-year old friend in the leg, according to Mitchell.
A 26-year-old man was also shot in the knee, according to a police spokesman.
Sunny McDowell, 34, was walking her dog nearby when she heard the shots fired. She said she ran to Reeves' side and prayed while waiting for the ambulance to arrive.
"Me and some other neighbors sat with her in the rain," McDowell said. "She surprised me. She took it like a trouper."
Mitchell said her daughter loved to sing and dance and described her as "very outgoing and loveable."
"She gets along with everyone," she said. "They all love being around her."
She also said her daughter had been excited about her upcoming graduation from Port Richmond High School, her mother said.
Reeves, who was awake and talking at the hospital, did not know the gunman, her mother said.
"She can't believe that a man would sit there and pull out a gun and shoot at females," Mitchell said. "She said she never saw him before."
The other victims were in stable condition, police said.
It is unclear whether the three victims were the gunman's intended targets, police said. The investigation is ongoing, police said.
