Free Macarons Up for Grabs at NYC Macaron Day

Macaron fans can get their fill of the sweet pastries on Thursday during Macaron Day NYC.

NEW YORK CITY — The first one's free.

More than a dozen participating bakeries will be doling out one free macaron per customer this Thursday as part of Macaron Day NYC, an annual bakery crawl in honor of the sweet delicacy.

The event, which lasts from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., kicked off in 2010 as the brainchild of Francois Payard Bakery, a hub of the French delicacy in New York, as a tribute to the Jour Du Macaron in Paris.

But here in the city, all the sweet snacking will be for a good cause, as a portion of proceeds from additional macarons purchased by customers on Thursday will go to City Harvest, which fights hunger in NYC.

Customers can also pick up a Macaron Day apron for $10 from an FPB or FP Patisserie, and 100 percent of the sales for aprons will be donated to City Harvest.

Last year, Macaron Day NYC raised $4,381 for City Harvest, officials said.
