FORT GREENE — Black Forest Brooklyn is gearing up for the outdoor bar season.

The owners of the new Fulton Street beer garden are looking to build a sidewalk café outside the watering hole, according to Community Board 2.

Tobias and Ayana Holler recently filed a Land Use application to build an unenclosed sidewalk café with 14 tables and 30 seats at 733 Fulton St., between South Elliot Place and South Portland Avenue.

If the application is approved, Black Forest will be the second beer garden with outdoor sidewalk seating in a two-block radius of Fulton Street in Fort Greene.

Die Stammkneipe/ Der Schwarze Kölner, at the corner of Fulton Street and Greene Avenue, has sidewalk seating during the warm months.

But some locals fear that on a strip of Fulton Street that sees heavy foot traffic, a sidewalk café will leave little room for passers-by.

"The sidewalk is pretty narrow outside Black Forest," said Fort Greene resident Michelle Hsieh, advertising director at Bazaarvoice. "It looks like people will have to walk on the grates to get past."

Others think the sidewalk café will boost business at the newly opened biergarten.

"During the summer months I prefer to go to bars with outdoor seating," said Jeremy Carrow, 36, art director at Fuse News.

The board is set to hold a public hearing before its vote on Feb. 18. The date and location of the public hearing have not yet been determined.

Black Forest Brooklyn owners did not comment.
