FORT GREENE — Red velvet cake is returning to Fort Greene.

Cake Man Raven's former staff is opening a new red velvet shop in the legend's former storefront at 708 Fulton St.

"The team that once worked for the very foremost red velvet baker in America will open our very first store in this historic location, paying homage to the founder," new bakery Piece of Velvet staff announced on their Facebook page.

Cake Man Raven served his well-loved red velvet cakes in Fort Greene for 12 years before he closed up shop to focus on other goals.

Luckily, a team of trained bakers are set to carry on his velvet reign.

The "staff collective" plans to sell baked goods made only from red velvet including cakes, ice cream, cupcakes, pancakes and waffles. They also plan to introduce new versions of the popular flavor including caramel velvet, vanilla velvet, cocovelvet and pineapple velvet, staff told Patch.

Piece of Velvet opens Saturday, August 17 at noon. The first 300 customers will get free red velvet cake.

Check their Facebook page for more news and information.
