FORT GREENE — As far as street names go, Schermerhorn is one of the most mispronounced and misspelled — so much so that even the MTA gets it wrong sometimes.
Outside the A, C, G Hoyt-Schermerhorn subway stop near the northeast corner of the intersection, the MTA's official “Schermerhorn” sign was missing its second of three “r”s, DNAinfo New York found on Wednesday.
The street name is spelled correctly on another, larger sign just feet away.
“That’s really stupid, basically,” said Hiandelys Abreu, 21, who has been using the stop regularly since June. “If they have it right in the train station, they should know how to spell it right here.”
But, because the sign is small, most riders on Wednesday afternoon said they hadn’t even noticed the error.
Stacey Richards, who works in the area and takes the stop every day, shrugged off the typo, saying it could be worse.
This is the second MTA spelling error to come to the public’s attention this week. In Jackson Heights, "Roosevelt" was misspelled on four signs at the 82nd Street stop on the 7 Train.
A representative from the MTA said the mistake would be corrected "in the next day or two."
