Notorious B.I.G.'s Childhood Crib Goes on Sale in Clinton Hill

By Janet Upadhye | April 2, 2013 8:06pm

CLINTON HILL — A hip-hop landmark is on sale in Brooklyn.

The childhood home of Christopher Wallace, aka Notorious B.I.G., just hit the real estate market. The three-bedroom-plus-den condominium at 226 St. James Place is going for $725,000.

Real estate agent Judith Lief said she is well aware of the history of apartment 3L.

"The tour buses that come by regularly are enough," she told New York Magazine. "I don't really know yet what impact, if any, [the condo's history] will have on the sale. I think it'll be notable, but I don't know if novelty translates to a purchase."

The famous rapper was killed in a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles in 1997. Murals depicting the Brooklyn native can be found outside a pizza shop on Franklin Avenue in Bed-Stuy and on the side of the Brooklyn Love Building on Fulton Street in Fort Greene.

There is an open house at the 226 St. James Place apartment, which was renovated several years ago, on April 3 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and April 7 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
