Car Crash Outside Pratt Institute Injures Two

By Janet Upadhye | February 7, 2013 10:24am

CLINTON HILL — Two people were seriously injured when a black pickup truck crashed into a parked car at approximately 7:35 a.m. Thursday morning near Pratt Institute in Clinton Hill, officials and witnesses said.

A woman was sitting in the parked car on DeKalb Avenue waiting for her daughter, who had run into a nearby bodega, when her car was hit, witnesses said.

"Luckily, the little girl was in the bodega at the time of the crash — or it could have been really bad," local resident Barbara Marino said.

The truck flipped onto its side, an FDNY spokesman said. The driver, who appeared to be a 20-something male, had to be removed from the vehicle through the back window, witnesses said.

The woman walked out of her parked car holding her ribs, Marino said.

The pickup driver and the woman were both taken by ambulance to Kings County Hospital with serious injuries, FDNY officials said.

"We heard the lady just screaming for help," Marino said. "She looked hurt. It was bad."

Other passers-by said the crash was extremely loud. Marino agreed.

"We heard what sounded like four or five loud bangs from our third-floor apartment," she said. "It sounded like something truly awful had happened."
