Scissors-Wielding Man Shot by Police Charged With Assault, NYPD Says

FORT GREENE — The 40-year-old man shot by police after allegedly lunging at a woman with scissors Wednesday has been charged, according to the NYPD.

Keary Green, who was shot by a cop in a Fort Greene Place apartment, was charged with assault, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

Green, who was taken to Kings County Hospital Center for the gunshot wounds, was awaiting arraignment.

Green, who was initially listed in critical condition, was upgraded to stable and is expected to survive, police said Thursday.

The mayhem erupted about 3:30 p.m. when an unidentified woman flagged down a cop on Fulton Street and said Green was brandishing scissors inside 48 Fort Greene Place, just across the street from Brooklyn Technical High School, police said. When police officers arrived at the apartment, they found Green holding the scissors to his own throat, cops said.

Then he suddenly turned on the woman, throwing her to the ground, and lunging at her with the scissors, cops said. That's when a 25-year-old officer, who moments before was on his way to a court appearance, opened fire and struck Green twice in the chest, cops said.

The officer was taken to New York Methodist Hospital and treated for tinnitus, police said.

The relationship between Green and the victim was not immediately known.

A Department of Education spokeswoman said there were no disruptions at the school.
