Culinary Beefs on the Menu for DUMBO's Food Fight

By Janet Upadhye | December 7, 2012 9:16am

DUMBO — Are chewy cookies better than their crispy counterpart? Should breakfast be sweet or savory? Is ice cream better than gelato?

The most epic culinary battles of all time will be settled once and for all at a food fight for adults only.

But this isn't a catapult-your-mashed potatoes type of battle: it's a taste-testing war hosted by Tasty Table, a nationwide food and drink blog, giving food fanatics the chance to "take a stand on the greatest food debates of our time."

“This is a night for people that love food and have strong opinions about what is good and what is not,” said event organizer Samantha Bernstein. “We’ll get to the bottom of some of the most classic culinary clashes.”

The Food Fight, taking place at DUMBO’s powerhouse Arena, covers 10 delicious duels with food provided by local restaurants.

El Toro Blanco, located in the West Village, is set to host the crispy versus soft taco battle. NumPang’s pork belly banh mi will compete against The Meatball Shop’s spicy pork meatball slider with Parmesan cream. And Popular Brooklyn donut shop Dough will host the doughnut duel (glazed versus filled) while other local spots provide food for battles involving fried chicken, cheese and barbecue.

Foodies fill up on treats and then vote on their favorites. Winning foods are announced the next day. Winners enjoy rights to gloat and say, “I told you so,” at least until Tasty Table's second annual Food Fight.

Food Fight takes place on Dec. 11 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available here and gives guests access to all ten tasting stations and an open bar featuring holiday-inspired cocktails such as Spiced Holiday Margarita and Winter Gin Sour, plus beer and local wine.
