Dog Owners in Fort Greene Show Their Politics With Poop Bags

By Janet Upadhye | October 16, 2012 7:10am

FORT GREENE — Who's Your Doggy? has a new take on polling the public about the upcoming presidential elections.

The company is selling dog bags featuring the faces of President Barack Obama and GOP rival Mitt Romney, giving customers the chance to show support for their favorite candidate by scooping poop with the face of their opponent.

Dog owner Dawn Robinson opted for the Romney bags saying, "I would have a real issue with scooping poop with Barack's face."

She wasn't the only one who felt that way. Just two days after the bags were stocked in the store, eight people had bought Romney bags, but no one had bought a bag with the president's face.

Store manager, Julia Rosenfeld, is tallying the number of bags purchased on a whiteboard behind the register.

"We expect our polls to be as accurate as the 7-Eleven coffee cup contest," she joked, referring to the convenience store chain's poll that has successfully predicted the winner in the last three races.

"It's just a funny way to deal with politics during election season."

Apparently, it's also good for business. Who's Your Doggy? has been selling more poop bags than usual thanks to what they're calling a "smear campaign."

On a recent Friday afternoon, the doggy bags sparked a friendly political debate inside the small neighborhood shop, after which only one question remained.

"Where's the Paul Ryan bag?" asked Stuart Fraser, owner of The Owl & Pussycat Salon.
