DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN — A man was stabbed and another person was hurt in a confrontation on a busy street in Downtown Brooklyn Wednesday afternoon, officials and witnesses said.

The assault occurred about 1 p.m. Wednesday at Myrtle Avenue and Duffield Street, an FDNY spokesman said.

The man who was stabbed was taken to Kings County Hospital in very serious condition, the FDNY spokesman said. A second person was taken to Kings County Hospital in serious condition with unspecified injuries, the FDNY said.

Police did not immediately have information about the incident.

Salena Rivera, 34, a dental receptionist, said she saw the aftermath of the stabbing from her office window nearby.

"He was holding his stomach and lying on the ground," Rivera said of the stabbing victim. "You could tell he was in a lot of pain."

Rivera said she was shocked to see violence on a street packed with office workers heading out to lunch.

"Who would think something would happen on such a busy block?" she said.
