BROOKLYN — Eight people were exposed to asbestos at the Brooklyn Navy Yard Thursday afternoon, authorities said.
Seven people, including firefighters and emergency responders, were hospitalized after being exposed to the carcinogen at 2:50 p.m., officials said.
It was not immediately clear what sparked the release.
Four firefighters, two emergency medical responders and one civilian were among those exposed and then decontaminated, an FDNY spokesman said.
They were taken to Bellevue Hospital with minor injuries, an FDNY spokesman said.
The Navy Yard did not immediately respond to a call for comment.
