MANHATTAN — Actor John Malkovich wants his money back from Bernard Madoff and has filed a lawsuit against the Ponzi schemer in Manhattan bankruptcy court, according to news reports.

Malkovich received only $670,000 of the $2.23 million that was reflected in his final statement from Madoff's company prior to the his arrest in 2008, the claim said, according to Reuters.

A prior court decision, that Malkovich is now contesting, ruled that Madoff's clients should receive exactly the amount they originally invested with the firm, but not the money their investments supposedly earned, Reuters said.

Malkovich's attorneys insisted that his earnings were based on legitimate investments and should, therefore, be paid out, according to the news source.

"A customer generally expects to receive what he believes is in his account at the time the stockbroker ceases business," the filling said, according to Reuters.

Other former Madoff clients, who include New York actor Kevin Bacon, World Trade Center developer Larry Silverstein and former Gov. Elliot Spitzer, are also petitioning to receive the full amount from their reported accounts, the news wire said.
