MIDTOWN — Santa's going to need some air conditioning.

The holidays are about to feel more like spring break as temperatures are expected to push into the 70s this week, forecasters said.

Tuesday and Wednesday highs should hover around 60 degrees with scattered showers, with Christmas Eve temperatures headed all the way up to 70 degrees as a warm-air mass makes its way east from the Gulf of Mexico, forecasters said.

“We’re definitely going to get close to records,” National Weather Service spokesman Jay Engle said.

The warmth is expected to last through Christmas Day, when the high is set to be 62 degrees.

"As we get into Thursday, that's looking like where we get into the best of the warm air," Engle said. "But Christmas is still going to be mild."

Continuing showers are expected to continue through the week, though, Engle added.

The Thursday high of 70 degrees would shatter the previous Dec. 24 record of 63 degrees set in 1996.

The normal high for this time of year is about 40 degrees, forecasters said.
