Man Takes Leashed Turtle on Neighborhood Stroll

By Emily Frost | July 6, 2015 3:18pm

UPPER WEST SIDE — Residents might want to consider altering their "Curb Your Dog" signs.

A man was spotted taking a small turtle on a walk Monday morning, letting the creature meander through a sidewalk tree pit filled with plantings and flowers along West 99th Street.

Manhattanite Sean Miller spotted the man "taking his turtle out for a morning walk" and posted the photos on Instagram.

The small turtle was held in check by a white rope that wrapped around his shell and was tied in a knot, the photos showed.

This was hardly the first unique animal sighting in the neighborhood in the past few months.

In May, a woman was seen out on a dinner date with her cat at a local Chinese restaurant.

A wounded deer was found next to a local library in late June and later died.

And a coyote was spotted in Riverside Park in late April.
