UPPER WEST SIDE — The wounded deer that was found near Bloomingdale Public Library on Wednesday morning has died, police said.

The deer, believed to have been hit by a vehicle while crossing the Henry Hudson Parkway, was found by the police around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday. The animal suffered multiple cuts to its body and face, according to police officers at the scene.

"There were two deer, one got hit on the Henry Hudson near 96th street, and it seems the other one managed to escape, cross Broadway and Amsterdam and get here," said Lt. Roger Lurch from the NYPD's 24th precinct on Wednesday morning.

The wounded animal entered through the front garden of the library at 150 W. 100th street while the other deer was found dead on the highway, police said.

"It's not impossible that they were a couple or a mother and her fawn," Lurch said.

Members of the NYPD Emergency unit restrained the deer and tranquilized it, police said.

Animal Care and Control picked up the deer at about 9 a.m., covering it with a yellow sheet. The non-profit did not return a request for more information.
