UPPER WEST SIDE — Police arrested a 51-year-old man Friday in connection with the recent stabbing death of a resident at an SRO building on Broadway and West 93rd Street.

Frank Herrera was arrested and charged with second degree murder in the fatal stabbing of a 56-year-old man on July 27, police said.

Both Herrera and the victim, who hasn't been identified yet by police, were residents at Narragansett Hotel, a single-room occupancy (SRO) building at 2508 Broadway.

The stabbing death was the second recent fatality at an Upper West Side SRO, buildings with modest apartment where residents often share bathrooms and cook over hot plates.

On July 20, the manager of a West 95th Street SRO building that shelters people with HIV was allegedly stabbed to death by a client at the facility.

Traditionally home to low-income tenants, SRO buildings are also sometimes used by city agencies to house the homeless or others who need special services, such as people with substance abuse or mental health problems.
