Smriti Rao is a reporter/producer at DNAinfo covering Jackson Heights and Elmhurst.

Originally from India, Smriti is an experienced news reporter and television anchor who working in New Delhi and Mumbai.

As an anchor for Bloomberg UTV, she hosted daily live updates on politics and the Indian markets for Bloomberg Asia. Also Smriti clocked in to work each day at 3:15 am to host and produce a popular breakfast news show on New Delhi Television.  

Smriti then stepped out of a perfectly-coiffed studio existence and jumped into reporting on immigrants and the economy in Queens.

A graduate of Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, she has reported extensively on South Asians in the borough and was one of the few reporters invited to interview Citibank's Vikram Pandit on the high rate of foreclosures in the area. Fluent in several Indian languages, Smriti has covered world affairs, features and provided commentary for many news outlets including Bloomberg and The Wall Street Journal.

Fun Fact: She holds a family record for scarfing down 12 masala dosas (an Indian crepe with potato filling) at a cousin's wedding.
