BROOKLYN — A box truck struck a boy who was crossing Linden Boulevard in East New York Thursday afternoon, according officials and an eyewitness.

The 9-year-old suffered a severe broken leg when he was struck by the truck as he crossed Linden Boulevard mid-block near Crescent Street about 3:41 p.m., police said.

Mohammed Ahmed, 20, a worker at Linden Deli Grocery on the corner of Linden Boulevard and Crescent Street, said he heard screaming and yelling outside and rushed to the sidewalk to see what had happened.

"A big truck hit his legs," Ahmed said. "You could see the bones."

The boy was conscious after being hit, the witness added.

"He’s looking at us like, 'What happened, what happened?' Shocked, just shocked," he said.

Emergency workers rushed the boy to Brookdale Hospital where he was treated for a serious leg injury, according to police and fire officials.

The investigation was ongoing, though no criminality was suspected, police said.
