FLATBUSH — A man convicted of shooting a 13-year-old in the eye while trying to gun down another man will spend 24 years in prison for the crime, the Brooklyn District Attorney said.

Kareem Potomont, 24, of Flatbush, was sentenced Tuesday in the shooting of then-13-year-old Gama Droiville, who was waiting at a bus stop on Flatbush Avenue and Beverley Road on April 14, 2014, when Potomont opened fire in broad daylight.

He hit his intended target, a 24-year-old man, in the leg while a stray bullet struck Droiville in the right eye. The boy survived, but lost his eye after undergoing multiple surgeries, Acting DA Eric Gonzalez said.

“The young victim of this senseless shooting… will suffer the consequences of it for the rest of his life,” he said in a statement.

Potomont was caught on video shooting the gun before fleeing the scene. He was convicted by a jury last month of assault, attempted assault, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon.
