LONGWOOD — The NYPD released a sketch and new surveillance footage Wednesday of the suspect who tried to rape a 13-year-old girl in the stairwell of a Bronx building earlier this month.

The man followed the victim into a residential building near Southern Boulevard and Leggett Avenue around 7:45 p.m. on Aug. 14, where he attacked her in the stairwell, attempting to put his hands down her pants and remove her clothes, police said.

But the girl fought him off, and the suspect fled the scene, according to the NYPD.

Police released a sketch of the man, who has a beard and wore a black baseball cap, black T-shirt, jeans and white sneakers. He is believed to be in his mid-20s and 5 feet, 5 inches tall, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
