THE BRONX — An attacker tried to sexually assault a shopper inside a Wakefield Walgreens, pushing her to a bathroom floor and attempting to rip off her pants before a store employee intervened, police said Friday.

The man waited for the 50-year-old woman to come out of a bathroom, then pushed her back inside and covered her mouth at the store on White Plains Road near Nereid Avenue Thursday around 3:45 p.m., the NYPD said.

The store employee heard her screaming for help, then pulled the assailant off of her, according to the NYPD.

The attacker immediately fled north on White Plains Road. The woman was treated at Jacobi Hospital, authorities said.

The suspect is believed to be between 30 to 35 years old, 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds. He was wearing a gray sweatshirt, white t-shirt, blue jeans and black and white sneakers.

A Walgreens manager at the location referred all questions to the corporate office, which did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
