THE BRONX — A woman died when her own van ran her over after another driver slammed into it then fled the Wakefield scene Wednesday morning, police said.

Irene Espinal-Jiminian, 37, was outside the van, which ferries disabled people, unloading a passenger at 629 E. 229th St., near Carpenter Avenue, when another vehicle slammed into hers about 10:35 a.m., an NYPD spokeswoman said.

Irene Espinal-Jiminian got back into the van and tried to reposition it by throwing it into reverse, but fell out onto the pavement where her van ran her over, police said.

Espinal-Jiminian, of Van Nest, suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at Montefiore Medical Center, police said.

The driver that hit her then fled and wasn't immediately arrested, police said. Investigators didn't provide a description of the vehicle.

Police didn't provide any information about the person she was taking off the van at the time.
