Bronx Crack Dealer Gets 65 Years in Prison for Murdering 2 Cousins: Feds

THE BRONX — A Bronx crack dealer was sentenced to 65 years in prison for executing two people after incurring a drug debt, the Manhattan United States Attorney said Wednesday.

Orane “Amaze” Nelson, 28, was convicted by a jury on murder, drug and weapons possession charges after he shot 30-year-old Jason Rivera and his cousin, 20-year-old Jennifer Rivera, in the back of the head while they sat in Jason’s car on Perry Avenue near East Gun Hill Road on Jan. 16, 2013.

“Orane Nelson executed two people in cold blood, including a young woman who was murdered simply because she was a witness to Nelson’s crimes. For his terrible crime, Nelson has been sentenced to 65 years in federal prison,” acting U.S. Attorney Joon Kim said in a statement.

“Although this prosecution and sentence will not bring the victims back to their families, we and our law enforcement partners at the FBI and the NYPD hope that it brings some measure of justice to them.”

Nelson lured Jason out with the promise of paying him for money he owed over drugs.

Jason took his cousin, who was not involved in any drug trafficking, and Nelson and another person got in the car and then executed the two cousins at close range.

A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney declined to comment when asked about whether the accomplice was arrested or charged.
