UPDATE: Police initially described the woman as Gonzalez's girlfriend, but sources later said she was believed to be his cousin.

MANHATTAN — An 18-year-old Bronx man was charged Monday with attacking two men who catcalled his girlfriend in Inwood, police said.

Branlee Gonzalez, 18, was walking with his girlfriend on Sherman Avenue near Dyckman Street at about 3:30 a.m. on May 18 when a 39-year-old man and 69-year-old man made comments about her, according to the NYPD.

Gonzalez flew into a rage and punched both men in the head, causing serious bruising to the 39-year-old and severe trauma to the 69-year-old, police said.

The elderly victim remains in critical condition at Saint Barnabas Hospital, an NYPD spokesman said, while the 39-year-old has been released from the hospital.

Gonzalez, who has no prior arrests, turned himself into the 34th Precinct Monday morning and was charged first- and second-degree assault.

He was expected to be arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court either Monday night or Tuesday morning.

There was no immediate information on his lawyer.
