'You're Dead to This World' Man Tells Cat Before Stomping Her to Death: DA

By Katie Honan | April 19, 2017 8:43am

FAR ROCKAWAY — A man was indicted on animal cruelty charges for throwing a cat off of a third-floor balcony — then stomping it to death in front of children after it survived the fall, according to the district attorney.

Giovanni Olivo, 30, allegedly threw the adult female cat from a third-floor balcony on Beach 26th Street on Sept. 30, 2016, watching it as it fell, police said.

The cat survived the fall — but she couldn't escape Olivo's brutality, according to the DA.

After the toss he walked downstairs and stomped the cat to death while it was in pain on the ground, allegedly saying, "you're dead to this world."

There were numerous witnesses to the cruelty, including kids, the DA said.

Olivo was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. He was released under supervision and will return to court July 13.

He faces up to two years in prison if convicted, officials said.

His lawyer could not be reached for comment.
