WAKEFIELD — A cab driver's passenger put him in a chokehold and robbed him of his wallet and cell phone in The Bronx, police said.

The suspect hailed the 45-year-old driver's cab Friday around 10:30 p.m. near Burnside and Jerome avenues, where he got in the backseat and asked to go to East 233rd Street and White Plains Road, according to the NYPD.

The passenger then told the driver to pull over at 236th Street and Carpenter Avenue, where he put him in a chokehold, held a sharp object up to his neck and demanded money, police said.

The driver gave the robber his wallet, which contained a credit card and $120 in cash, and the suspect also took the driver's cell phone before fleeing, according to police.

Officers described the suspect as a man between 30 and 40 years old who stands 6 feet tall, weighs 200 pounds and was last seen wearing a green jacket and green baseball hat.

Anyone with information about this robbery is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or, for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at www.nypdcrimestoppers.com or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES), then entering TIP577.
