Ex-Con Sentenced for Killing Man Who Asked, 'What Are You Looking At?'

By Nicholas Rizzi | December 2, 2016 1:29pm

STATEN ISLAND — An ex-con who shot a man to death because the victim asked, "What are you looking at?" was sentenced to at least 40 years in prison Friday.

Delano Hubert, 31, will serve 40 years to life for the 2014 murder of Ceasar Augusto Sanchez, 20, outside the Berry Houses, the Staten Island District Attorney's office said.

On Sept. 24, Hubert followed Sanchez on a bicycle outside 235 Jefferson St. when Sanchez asked him "What are you looking at?" according to police and prosecutors.

Hubert felt Sanchez was disrespecting him so drew his gun and shot him in the head, officials and sources said.

Sanchez was taken to Staten Island University Hospital North where he died from his injuries, police said.

Hubert was found guilty of murder and criminal possession of a weapon in November, the DA said.

He was sentenced to 25 years to life for the murder charges and 15 years for the criminal possession of a weapon charges to run consecutively, prosecutors said.

Hubert previously spent nearly five years behind bars after he was convicted for the death of an 18-year-old in a 2015 drive-by-shooting, the Staten Island Advance reported.
