THE BRONX — Police on Saturday said they have arrested a man they say brutally beat and sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl in a park near the Bronx River last week.

Shaun Lewis, 27, allegedly met the unidentified victim on the Gun Hill Road 2 train subway platform about 4:40 a.m. Monday, and the two walked over to Bronx Park by the corner of E. 213th Street and Bronx Boulevard, where he tried to sexually assault her, police said.

The 15-year-old girl fought back, and Lewis began to viciously attack her, breaking her jaw in the process, according to police.

The girl was taken to Montefiore Medical Center Hospital and listed in stable condition. She was later able to identify her attacker, police said.

Lewis was arrested Friday, and charged with attempted rape, assault, strangulation, forcible touching and endangering the welfare of a child, according to the NYPD.
