THE BRONX — A 14-year-old was stabbed in the stomach with a pocketknife by another student on Friday at a special needs school, according to officials.

The incident occurred about 1 p.m. at P.S. 723 at 3540 Bivona St., according to the NYPD. The student who was stabbed was taken to Montefiore Medical Center and is in stable condition, police said.

The student who slashed the boy was taken into custody, police said, adding that the boy behind the stabbing is also 14 years old.

P.S. 723 is a District 75 school with about 45 special needs students, said Gregory Floyd, president of Teamsters Local 237 City Employees Union. Derek Jackson, a rep for the union, said that the school does not have metal detectors.

The Department of Education was working with the NYPD on the investigation, sources said.
