Man Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison for 2012 Far Rockaway Shooting

EDGEMERE — A 22-year-old man who followed another man off the A train and shot him in front of a nearby building has been sentenced to 20 years in prison, according to the Queens District Attorney's office.

Diamonte Alexander, 22, was convicted in June on manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon charges for shooting Peren Phillippe, 21, in 2012, officials said.

Alexander had followed Phillippe off of the A train at the Beach 44th Street subway stop and shot him in the thigh and foot in front of a building on Beach 43rd, according to the DA.

He fled but was nabbed by police a few blocks away, tossing a gun under a dumpster while running away, prosecutors said.

"This was a brutal and senseless act of violence," DA Richard Brown said in a statement.

"The victim was shot multiple times. As such, the imposition of a lengthy prison term is more than warranted.”

Alexander's first trial ended in a hung jury, officials said.
