BROOKLYN — The bereaved mother of 22-year-old Tiarah Poyau made sure the man charged for her daughter's death knew exactly what she thought of him as he faced indictment on Monday.

“Moise, kill yourself!” Vertina Brown shouted at Regenald Moise, according to a report by the Daily News.

The 20-year-old Flatbush man has been indicted and arraigned on charges of murder, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon for the Sept. 5 shooting that ended Poyau’s life, the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office said.

Moise pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail.

At the time of the shooting, Poyau had been celebrating with friends at the Caribbean festival of J’Ouvert on Empire Boulevard in Crown Heights. She was hit in the head by a bullet fired by Moise, who was later caught by police after he tried to stash the gun at a nearby apartment, police said. He then fired multiple shots into the apartment's wall and tried to drive away while intoxicated, police said.

After Monday’s court appearance, Poyau’s mother Brown called for an end to the pre-dawn J’Ouvert celebration and the gun violence that takes place there, the News reported.

“She was my only child, my miracle baby,” she said through tears to reporters at the courthouse. “This gun violence has to stop.”

Moise’s attorney could not be reached for comment on the charges. The 20-year-old faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted. He is due back in court on Oct. 24, Department of Correction records show.
