Men Driving Garbage Truck Beat Pedestrian with Metal Pipe, Police Say

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — Two men driving a garbage truck early Saturday morning punched a 34-year-old man and hit him with a metal pipe, police said.

The victim was crossing Henry Street near Atlantic Avenue when he got into a verbal argument with two men driving a garbage truck Oct. 1 at about 5:55 a.m., according to the police report.

One man jumped out of the truck and repeatedly punched the victim in the chest. The second man grabbed a metal pipe from the rear of the truck and hit the victim on his left leg, police said. The victim said the two men were strangers to him, according to the report.

The two men — described as about six feet in height — jumped back into the truck after the incident and fled westbound on Atlantic Avenue toward the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway.

The victim suffered bruising and swelling, police said.

No other description of the garbage truck drivers was provided.
