Gold Jewelry, Electronics and Tax Returns Stolen From Evacuated Building

BOERUM HILL — Thousands of dollars worth of electronics, jewelry and other valuables were stolen from residents who evacuated an unsafe Bergen Street building between Aug. 31 and Sept. 27, police said.

Tenants of an apartment building near Bergen and Nevins streets were asked to move out after the building was deemed unsafe due to falling bricks, according to two police reports.

Once it was safe, they were allowed to return to retrieve their property, but at least two tenants reported burglaries during the same time period, police said. Both reports stated the front door had been broken into and valuables were missing.

One victim, a 37-year-old man, lost a 36-inch Vizio television worth $1,000, an $1,800 Apple computer, two watches worth $500, $200 in cash and tax return filings.

Two women, 34 and 26, reported the theft of two gold chains worth $2,050, gold earrings, gold bangles, rings, a silver necklace and a hard drive — a total value of $4,525.

Other notable crimes in the 84th Precinct, according to police, include:

► Two iPad Pros worth $730 each were swiped from a Radio Shack on Court Street at about 11:50 a.m. on Sept. 30, police said.

► A Breguet watch, a bicycle and cash were stolen from a man's Bergen Street home Sept. 28 between 10:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. There was no forced entry into the building, though it was not known whether the door had been locked or left unlocked. The total value of the stolen property was listed as $22,100.
