CRIME BLOTTER: 28-Year-Old Man Arrested in Nostrand Avenue Shooting

CROWN HEIGHTS — A 28-year-old man was arrested this week in the shooting of a 36-year-old man near Nostrand Avenue, police said.

The victim told police he was drinking on the sidewalk at President Street around 10:50 p.m. on Sept. 15 when an unknown man approached and shot him.

The suspect fled westbound on President Street, police said. The victim then brought himself to Kings County Hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound to the upper left back.

The NYPD arrested Ryan Lewis, 28, on Sept. 20, court records show, charging him with attempted murder, assault, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon, among other charges.

Lewis is in custody on $150,000 bail and is expected back in court on Sept. 26. His legal representative from Legal Aid could not be reached for comment.

► Two men and one woman were arrested at an Ocean Avenue apartment after officers operating on a search warrant found counterfeit money, two imitation pistols, marijuana and narcotics paraphernalia in the home on Sept. 14. Of the three arrested, a 22-year-old man and 25-year-old man each face felony drug charges. The woman, a 36-year-old, faces various drug-related misdemeanors, court records show.

► Suspects stole more than $2,000 in cash, electronics, sneakers and tools from a neighborhood barber shop, police said. A 40-year-old worker at Grooming Headquarters at 216 Winthrop St. told police he opened the shop on the morning of Sept. 15 and found the front lock broken and $1,200 in cash, a Playstation, a pair of Air Jordans and haircutting clippers missing from the location, worth about $2,100 in total. Surveillance footage shows the break-in took place just after midnight, but a suspect has yet to be identified.

► A 39-year-old man was arrested after officers saw him smoking a joint on the northeast corner of Ocean and Parkside avenues around 2:30 a.m. on Sept. 16. Upon his arrest, the man was found to be carrying a switchblade, 20 Ziplock bags of marijuana and three twists of crack cocaine.

► A 40-year-old man reported to police that he was stabbed in the back with an unknown object while standing outside 701 Fenimore St. around 1:00 a.m. on Sept. 17. He was treated at Kings County Hospital for a puncture wound. He said he did not know his attacker; no suspect has been identified, police said.

► A 22-year-old was assaulted and robbed for his chain necklace and cellphone while he walked along Nostrand Avenue and Eastern Parkway around 6:50 p.m. on Sept. 20. The victim said two unknown male suspects approached him, punched him in the face and stole the two items. The man was treated for minor injuries at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center.
