WEST VILLAGE — From street level, you know you're in Greenwich Village when the roads became a maze of narrow, crooked streets with names instead of numbers (and you are probably lost).

From space, the neighborhood looks much more orderly, almost as grid-like as the rest of the city.

But the most striking thing is how its name makes perfect sense — the length of Greenwich Avenue sets the area apart, like a little Village unto itself.
