WATCH: 'Luke Cage' Fights to Save Harlem in Trailer for New Netflix Series

By Dartunorro Clark | August 9, 2016 3:08pm

Hell's Kitchen has "Jessica Jones" — and now Harlem has "Luke Cage."

An action-packed, full-length trailer dropped Tuesday for the forthcoming Netflix series, paying homage to the neighborhood with shots of various sites, from the Apollo Theater to local brownstones.

With Harlem as his backdrop, the bulletproof superhero played by Mike Colter protects the streets from Cottonmouth, a ruthless, power-hungry drug lord terrorizing the city, played by Mahershala Ali.

Acclaimed actress Alfre Woodard, playing Mariah Dillard, calls the neighborhood a "perpetual symbol of hope and prosperity" in the teaser.

The nearly 3-minute trailer features plenty of action, with clips of Cage bringing vigilante justice to Harlem amid gun battles, explosions and fight scenes.

"Sometimes if you want justice, you have to get it yourself," says actress Rosario Dawson, reprising her role as Claire Temple from "Jessica Jones."

Cage exists in the same comic book universe as Jones, and he is also the first black Marvel superhero to have a live-action solo series, according to MoviePilot

Netflix has a number of other Marvel series in the works, including "Iron Fist" and "The Defenders"

The first season of "Luke Cage" premieres Sept. 30th on Netflix.
