WAKEFIELD — A two-alarm blaze broke out at Montefiore Medical Center Monday morning, prompting a partial evacuation of patients and staff, according to fire and hospital officials.
Firefighters responded to a blaze at the hospital's Wakefield Campus at Carpenter Avenue near E. 231st St. around 8:11 a.m., an FDNY spokesman said.
The fire between the top floor and the roof of the outpatient facility was under control just before 9 a.m., officials said, and was sparked by foam in a chimney that ignited during a generator test, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
Some patients and staff were evacuated from the building, a hospital representative added. No further details were available on their conditions.
No injuries were reported, according to the FDNY.
