Pokémon GO has spread across NYC faster than a zombie virus. It's already annoyed the NYPD Commissioner, inspired a few new businesses and caused a guy to fall into a pond in Prospect Park.
The game's popularity has prompted the MTA to post an ad featuring an image of a Pikachu on the subway tracks, with a person leaning over to "capture" it while standing on the yellow line at the end of the platform. DNAinfo spotted the ad at the Clinton Washington stop of the C train in Clinton Hill on Friday.
It read "Hey Pokémon GO players, we know you want to catch 'em all, but stay behind that yellow line when in the subway."
According to MTA Spokesperson Kevin Ortiz, the Pokémon GO-themed announcement went up in platforms across the city on Thursday. It's modeled after a previous campaign that warned commuters to stay away from the edge of the subway platforms.
"In addition to our social media safety messaging on Pokemon GO, we have developed and deployed the attached message on our On The Go Travel Stations," he said in an email to DNAinfo. "There have been no incidents of customers falling onto the tracks while playing the game.
