WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — Once again, the 13th Congressional District race came down to just that — race.
Mapping out election district tallies in the race, which state Sen. Adriano Espaillat holds a narrow lead in, prompting outgoing Rep. Charles Rangel — who backed Espaillat's opponent Keith Wright — to call for a recount, reveals a clear divide for votes along racial lines.
Espaillat, who is on track to become the first Dominican in Congress should he win, picked up strong support in heavily Dominican Washington Heights, Inwood and the Bronx.
Wright, hand-picked by Charlie Rangel to replace the 23-term Harlem congressman, found his votes in traditionally black Harlem, and East Harlem. (Interestingly, voters on the west side of Inwood supported Clyde Williams, a former aide to Presidents Clinton and Obama, over Espaillat.)
See how your block voted in the map below. Districts won by Espaillat are in magenta, while districts won by Wright are in blue. Adam Clayton Powell and Clyde William's districts are green and grey, respectively.
