Teen Turns Himself In to Police After Escaping Custody, NYPD Says

BROOKLYN — A teenage fare-beater was arrested again more than four hours after he escaped police custody in Crown Heights, NYPD officials said.

The 16-year-old, whose name is being withheld because of his age, had been picked up for entering the subway without paying and was inside the NYPD's Transit District 32 building at 960 Carroll St., near Franklin Avenue, about 9:44 p.m. Monday when he managed to escape, police said.

The boy, who lives in Brownsville, turned himself in to the 75th Precinct stationhouse about 2:15 a.m., an NYPD spokeswoman said.

He was charged with the initial theft of service as well as escaping police custody, the NYPD spokeswoman said.
